Business owners at the Coast are gearing up to make a killing. And hoteliers are expected to enjoy roaring business in August, thanks to Mombasa International Show and school holidays.
A survey by the Nation indicated that almost all hotels were fully booked as top public officials and private sector executives prepare to attend the agricultural show which starts from August 12 to 16. President Kibaki is expected to open the fair.
Bookings from the domestic tourism market have shot up as large number of Nairobi and upcountry residents go on holiday and the Coast.
Travellers Beach Hotel general manager Freddie Kiuru said most bookings were for family package category as parents tour with their children during the school vacations.
“Our bed occupancies are now at 64 per cent, but from next week, the hotel will be full thanks to the show and school holidays,” the hotelier said.
He added: “In August, parents from upcountry come in large numbers to savour the sun, sand and sea environment at the Coast.We are glad that more Kenyans are now coming for holidays.”
Sun ‘N’ Sand Beach Resort general manager Andimilleh Makumbi also said the hotel would be full in the wake of the school holidays and the show.
Mr Makumbi said the hotel had 75 per cent bed occupancy, with 45 per cent being foreigners, adding that next week the place would be packed with guests.
